I should probably admit that I can turn choosing a restaurant into a small research project, then change my mind. A loose plan makes me comfortable; a better idea is always welcome. I enjoy a little style in the surroundings and in the conversation; neither needs to be loud. I’m good at slowing a moment down without making it feel heavy. I like the first decision to be made and the next few to stay negotiable. I like words, places, and people that feel real rather than overworked. For me, comfort comes from good manners, a little laughter, and an evening that can take care of itself. The rest is simple: good energy, mutual respect, and a reason to stay for one more conversation. I like leaving some room around the plan. A little character goes a long way with me.
