The right atmosphere matters to me, usually before either person has said very much at all. I enjoy a little mischief in conversation. especially when nobody is trying to look clever. I enjoy a considered look and a relaxed manner, especially when neither one does all the talking. I enjoy people who can move from a serious subject to a ridiculous one without losing the thread. I like questions that open a door rather than close a subject. I’m not above changing my mind when someone brings a genuinely better idea. I’m happy to make a plan and happier when it becomes a joke we keep repeating. Ultimately. I’m looking for ease. interest. and the feeling that the evening was time well spent. The atmosphere should support the people in it. I notice when a place feels personally chosen.
