There is something about a slow evening and an unforced conversation that brings out the best in me. I can hold my own in a conversation without needing to dominate it. I’m happiest when a sensible plan leaves room for a better impulse. I enjoy a considered look and a relaxed manner, especially when neither one does all the talking. I like knowing where an evening begins, then leaving space for the best part to happen by accident.
